Well this trip had a rough start. I wanted some fresh bait so I went to the boat ramp after waiting in line for 25 minutes to get into the park. Fire ants were everywhere since some people decide to leave shad etc. all over the bulkheads. If your not going to use them, put them back in the water. Only caught a couple of shad before saying screw that idea. Headed towards the kayak launch and unloaded everything. A fellow TKF member told me where to get some bait near the kayak launch. After a couple of tosses with the cast net I had enough to finally set sail. While I was casting for bait, the tail end of the Hobie was parked near the grass and fire ants invaded my kayak. Attacked once again by fire ants. After dealing with that situation, I headed off towards a hole near the reed beds. I wanted to stick around the East side of the lake but the morning winds didn't allow that. After no bites on the initial hole, I drifted over another further out in open water. I was using live tilapia on a Carolina rig. No bites there either. Moved up the East side of the lake to a deep point. Caught a 6# catfish mid-text (wife asked what I needed for groceries). That's how it normally works. Quick hands allowed me to catch him before my rod went in the water. The wind was strong and threatened to push waves over the side of the Hobie. I reluctantly left that spot and headed towards the dam. Wouldn't you know it. As soon as I get to the dam, the winds change direction. I guess I will have a little more patience next time. I would have liked to fish that area more. Didn't have any nibbles the rest of the day. I will consider finding a spot I have confidence in a win, even if it took a few trips and a few ant bites.
